OpenAI has admitted that its artificial intelligence tools published 53 images online that were sent by users via its ChatGBT platform, in a new data breach that this time involves the company''s own users. The San Francisco-based AI giant also revealed that its tools had breached the websites of US federal agencies, confirming a previous report by The New York Times, but stated that it only collected publicly available information.
OpenAI explained that the links to the 53 images were not publicly accessible and were accidentally published on web hosting sites.
It indicated that most of them have been removed with the help of the relevant hosting providers, and work is underway to remove the remaining images.
These images were sent from accounts whose owners had consented to the use of their data to develop the company''s models. Before being used, the images passed through a privacy filter, and the company confirmed that it is no longer possible to link the images to the users who sent them.
OpenAI did not specify whether the images depicted identifiable individuals or sensitive data, and it did not disclose any further details
